Python's BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES legacy feature is now deprecated

Issue

The Python Buildpack is showing a build warning that BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES is deprecated.

Resolution

The BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES legacy feature has been deprecated. For the best experience, we encourage you to migrate to the third-party Heroku Geo Buildpack as soon as possible.

At the end of the six month deprecation period, as soon as Oct 6, 2020, support for BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES will be removed from the buildpack.

Migration

In order to continue to use the GDAL, GEOS and PROJ packages on Heroku, you can add the third-party Heroku Geo Buildpack to your application:

$ heroku buildpacks:add --index 1 https://github.com/heroku/heroku-geo-buildpack.git

Confirm that the buildpack has been added:

$ heroku buildpacks
=== Buildpack URLs
1. https://github.com/heroku/heroku-geo-buildpack.git
2. heroku/python

You will then need to remove the BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES environment variable from your application:

$ heroku config:unset BUILD_WITH_GEO_LIBRARIES

To ensure no issues on the new deploy, it is highly recommended to clear your cache.
