You'd like to know more about the GitHub Student Developer Program.
The GitHub Student Developer Pack is a marketing program managed by GitHub. The program provides students with free access to developer tools from participating partners, including Heroku. Once registered in the program, student status lasts for 2 years but can be renewed upon request with proof of student status. Read more about it on GitHub's blog post.
We are offering a one Heroku Hobby Dyno for each eligible student for up to 2 years, valued at $84/year, that provides support for single dynos that never sleep, and also allows features such as seamless deploy with GitHub, free SSL on custom domains, and the chance to try out the Heroku Developer Experience.

Why is a credit card required to receive the free offering?
Credit card verification is a security requirement for all Heroku accounts wishing to use custom domains, third-party add-ons, and/or Hobby Dyno or higher plans. More information can be found here. Your student credit will not be issued until you go through the card verification process.
Debit cards with a VISA or MasterCard logo are also accepted for verification.
How can I check if I received my free dyno?
The free Hobby Dyno will be provided via platform credits that will be applied to the total on your invoice. For a personal account, these credits will appear under the Platform Credits section of your billing page (shown in sample image below).
Can the free dyno be applied to a Heroku Team account?
The offer is not available for Heroku Team accounts at this time.
Can the free dyno discount be applied to additional dynos or other items on my Heroku bill?
No. The Heroku offer is for one (1) free Hobby Dyno for two years, which will be applied on your invoice as a discount of $7 for a Hobby Dyno.
If you have additional dynos or other paid Heroku services (Add-ons, Heroku CI), your free offer will not be applied to those.
I applied for my free dyno days or weeks ago and don't see the credits on my account yet. What's wrong?
Go to Account Settings > Billing tab to make sure your Heroku account has a credit card on file. If you do not have a card on file, please add one and then check back for your free dyno credits in a week's time.
If you have had credit card on file for more than a week and still did not receive your credits, please send an inquiry to email@example.com.
