If my company is tax exempt, how can I submit documentation to support this?

Issue

You'd like to submit the appropriate tax forms to Heroku in order to not be charged taxes on your monthly invoice.

Resolution

The taxation of Heroku-based services began on August 1, 2019. In an effort to become tax compliant, Heroku charges taxes on all states listed in the article below:

If the billing address associated with your Heroku Personal or Heroku Team is located in any of the states listed in the article above, you will incur taxes on your monthly invoice.

Tax exemption documents

Certain customers may be tax-exempt will be able to apply for exemption. For your account to be marked as tax-exempt, you must supply one of the following:

  • State tax exemption certificate bearing the legal name and/or company name.
  • Acceptable forms include, but are not limited to SS-4, ST-5, ST-2, ST-119 forms, etc. Your exemption form can vary from state to state.
  • Additionally, certain state tax exemptions are issued by their respective taxing authorities. If this applies, please upload your state-generated certificate for enrollment.

Additional required information

If your State Tax Exemption certificate does not include a certificate number or your Federal EIN/TIN, please also submit a copy of your corresponding documentation that provides a copy of this ID number.

Processing time

We cannot accept Federal (IRS) tax exemption forms; only the state form will be used for sales tax exemption. Once the request has been received, please allow 10-12 business days for processing.
